Hey Friends! Dave here with Transfer Express, and today we’re going to be covering some unique print placements for custom printed apparel!

Sure, the center front or left chest locations reign supreme for apparel decorating, but today, we’ll be covering some out-of-the-box locations you can try for your next project to stand out from the norm.

Ready to press your luck? I am, let’s roll!

Unique placements can definitely help your apparel stand out, regardless of if you’re running your own brand or you’re a custom decorator. Being able to suggest these out-of-the-box print placements to your customers can help your business stand out from those other print shops that may stick to only standard placements or charge added fees for these not-so-standard prints.

If you’re running your own clothing brand, you can use these placements as inspiration for your own designs. They definitely will help you stand out on the Etsy and social media scroll. Unique placements can be minimal too and these smaller prints are highly profitable when grouping your artwork together all on one transfer sheet, or as we call it “gang sheeting”.

Gang sheets truly maximize your prints, allowing you to combine prints for standard or unique print locations as well as branding, like inside tag prints or small logos you can print on caps, or even the upper back, something like this!

  • Positive sleeve messages
    • For the wearer. Spread positivity or a message.
    • Print flat or with sleeve platens
  • Side prints (making a comeback)
    • Different sizes, designs & orientations
  • Front-to-sleeve prints
    • Showing the creative use of print locations
      • Can add print time - so perfect for custom pieces or limited runs. Can take a lot of time to be super profitable
  • The back shoulder location
    • Popular for branding that is unique and stands out. Eye-catching
  • Vertical left chest / “the stripe”
    • Adds visual weight to one-side, adds a little edge to a otherwise standard left chest.
  • Aligned to collar
    • Popular on Etsy
  • Inside/upside down prints
    • Novelty + Funny shirts. Easy to print
